Summer Camp Staff Still Needed

All those who are still interested in joining the 2012 Summer Camp Staff at Camp Crooked Creek can submit applications to the Council Office. Please ensure you either submitted or are bringing: application completely filled out, a copy of your Youth Protection training and Weather Hazard training cards (both trainings can be taken online at myscouting.org.), and copies of any other certifications or specialized training cards. You can also fax these into our office at 502-400-5762 or email them to Camp Commissioner Johnathon Boles, johnathon.boles@scouting.org . You can also mail these to our office PO Box 36273, Louisville KY 40233, Attention: Johnathon Boles.

Staff Development

In an effort to ensure that we have all the tools we need to build in 2012, we will be holding our staff developments during the months of March, April, and May 2012. It is very important that all staff attend. Each of you are important to this staff. You all bring something to help mold our family into one. Below are those important dates:

2012 Staff Management Announced

At Camp Crooked Creek, we take pride in the fact that we have the best staff in the Southern Region! As we prepare for the twenty-fifth birthday of our Camp, the Council celebrates in the efforts of the Camp Staff and know that the staff is fully committed and prepared to give your boys a positive camp experience. Recruiting, training, and facilitating a staff is no easy task, and the Camp Director shares that responsibility with the Program Director and Camp Commissioner each summer. These three leaders, known as the Key Three, act in concert with each other to ensure the promise of a great camp for your Scouts.

 In 2012 Daniel Leathers is returning to camp to serve as Camp Director. Daniel has been with the Council since 2002 when he was hired as District Executive in Lincoln Trail District. Daniel has since been their District Director and now serves as Field Director for Service Area One in Central Kentucky. Daniel is an Eagle Scout, Vigil Honor Member of the Order of the Arrow, and a proud veteran of the United States Army. Daniel is unique because he served as the nineteenth Camp Director in 2006 and will be the twenty-fifth Camp Director in 2012. Daniel is happily married to his wife Cyndi Leathers and has one son who is a Bear, David. Daniel is a 2002 graduate of Middle Tennessee State University and a proud SR-555 Owl!

He will be aided by Josh Simpson, who will be serving as Program Director. Josh is a long time Scouter from Southern Indiana. He is an Eagle Scout and Vigil member of the OA. Josh is a former Lodge Chief and active Lodge member in Talligewi Lodge #62. Josh first joined the Summer Camp Staff at Camp Crooked Creek in 2005 as a lifeguard. Josh also served as Assistant Aquatics Director and Assistant Camp Commissioner. Josh is active in Troop 4010 on Chief Old Ox District and serves on their District Committee. Josh is currently studying at Indiana University Southeast in New Albany and a proud Woodbadge Bobwhite.

Johnathon Boles is returning for his eleventh year on Summer Camp Staff in 2012 and his seventh consecutive season as Camp Commissioner, making him the longest serving Camp Commissioner in the history of Camp Crooked Creek. Boles recently celebrated one and one half years working at our Council Office as Program Support Specialist. Boles is an Eagle Scout from Elizabethtown and Vigil Honor Member of the OA, and first served on Camp Staff as the Citizenships Director 2002-2005. Boles has long served our council as a volunteer in many positions including the Lincoln Trail District Popcorn Kernel, Summer Camp Promotions Chair, and Advancement Chair. Boles is active on the Catholic Committee for Scouting and Council Venturing Committee. He is a proud Antelope from SR-1070 and studied Secondary Education at Western Kentucky University.
