Leave No Trace

Purpose

"Leave No Trace" is a nationally recognized program that teaches outdoor ethics and advanced camping skills to youth and adults with the goal of reducing their impact on the outdoors and other people.

Objectives

  • To train scouts and scouters in minimal impact front and back country camping techniques appropriate to the age and location of the group.
  • To provide the training opportunities necessary for youth to advance and show leadership in scouting.
  • To provide the training opportunities for scouters in all programs to learn skills that will build confidence and competence in conducting safe outdoor experiences.

Dates

 
Option A: Friday/Saturday/Sunday, April 27-29, 2012
Option B: Friday/Saturday/Sunday, November 2-4, 2012
This course will allow participants to learn and practice in an outdoor setting the 7 Principles of Leave No Trace and prepare individuals to act as Leave No Trace-recognized Trainers from Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics (www.lnt.org). The training includes 16 hours of hands-on instruction and overnight camping. The first night camping (Friday) will be conducted in a frontcountry setting impacted site and the second night camping (Saturday) will be conducted in a pristine backcountry setting. Participants will need to hike a short distance to the backcountry site.
